The entire Parque Morelos, including the zoo, spans around 1045 acres or around 423 hectares, and it was founded in 1987. Besides the zoo, you’ll find plenty of other areas in the park that are enjoyable for kids, adults, and families.


The Tijuana Zoo is situated in the southern part of Tijuana. It is 7.3 miles or 11.8 kilometers from the border and 7.4 miles or 12 kilometers from downtown. 

The travel time from downtown and the border takes around 20 to 30 minutes, depending on traffic. Other ways of getting to the zoo besides a car would be a taxi or an Uber.

Operating Hours

The zoo at Parque Morelos is open every day, from 7:00 in the morning to 5:00 in the evening. However, the Parque Morelos opens its gates at 6:00 in the morning and closes by 6:00 in the evening.

Entrance Fee

The zoo and the entire Parque Morelos don’t have an entrance fee. As such, you don’t have to worry about paying for anything other than the food you may buy.

As I mentioned earlier, the Tijuana Zoo is a part of Parque Morelos, and you’ll find plenty of other areas within this park.

As a whole, Parque Morelos is an ecological reserve situated within the city of Tijuana. Besides the zoo, the park also houses a man-made lake home to several types of fish, ducks, and other marine life.

The park also includes 11 kiosks for family gatherings and ten grass areas for picnics. You’ll also find barbecue grills and a public bathroom. Both are free to use.

The lake within Parque Morelos is surrounded by a train track with a train for kids and adults to ride when circling the lake.

You’ll also find a dock housing small boats, two playgrounds for kids, and a game zone for paintball sports. Within the playground, you’ll find plenty of mechanical rides for kids, including swings and slides.
